What's a mod?

A moderator is someone who helps keep the forums peaceful, friendly, and organized. Someone who is helpful to others and someone who is addicted to GoPets! We look for level-headed users who are able to see both sides of an argument and not let personal feelings get in the way. Moderation on the forums is a team effort as well, so being able to work with others is a must.

What are modly duties?

Generally, moderators have a twofold responsibility: 1. to ensure that members are following the community rules 2. to foster lively discussion A good moderator ensures that the forums are inviting, active, and an asset to the GoPets community as a whole.

1. The main purpose of moderation is to prevent inappropriate posts to the forums. There is a process of ensuring that posts made to the GoPets' Forums are in accordance with the GoPets Site Use Policies, Forum Posting Policies, & Legal Disclaimer. This may involve moving posts to a more appropriate forum, or occasionally editing or deleting posts. Moderators have been extended this ability to edit, move, or delete inappropriate threads.

2. We at GoPets strongly believe in respecting others' opinions. Remember that we're dealing with people from all over the globe, with all kinds of differing experiences, technical abilities, and points of view. Moderation should be used solely to keep all posts in line with the GoPets Site Use Policies, COPPA regulations, Forum Posting Policies, & Legal Disclaimer. Moderation should not be used to censor unpopular viewpoints, or those that the moderator simply disagrees with.

Qualifying for modship

In order to be considered for moderator duties, you must meet these qualifications:

1. a user must be an active user for at least 90 consecutive days prior to submitting a mod application (this will increase as GoPets itself gets older)
2. be at least 18 years of age due to the graphic nature of some of the threads required to handle by mods
3. have not been banned for any amount of time.
4. provide a written statement as to why you believe you are qualified to be a GoPets forum moderator
5. provide 5 links to posts that represent what you believe to be some of your finer forum moments (where you have helped others, showed good judgement, etc)

Mods serve for a period of 1 month, then are returned to the list of future volunteers (unless they are no longer interested). After their month as a moderator is over, they are normal users once again.

More information is given to you if and when you become a mod; moderator rules, etc. Just reply to this thread (do not PM me, I want to be able to use this as a reference and I can't do that with a PM) with the reasons why you believe you're qualified to be a mod and we'll get back to you when you've been chosen from the list for a specific month.

I would like to state that this is not a contest, and while previous mods have stated that they had a good time moderating, it is no secret that it was a lot of work as well! Make sure you have the time and patience to dedicate to being a mod before you apply!
