What is GoPets?

GoPets is a 3D world that revolves around virtual pets and their creators, otherwise known as GoPets citizens. Citizens can be land owners, entrepreneurs, landscapers, interior designers, or all of the above! Also, citizens who purchase Premium can be clothing & furniture designers. A quick registration, a small download, and installation of the GoPets client are all it takes to get started!

New GoPets citizens start at level one with access to a limited number of items. They are guided through the early stages of GoPets via a series of quests, and as they progress through the game, get access to more items. As they reach each new level, they are rewarded with shells! By the time they reach level 30, they have access to every item in GoPets and should be familiar with all of the current features.

GoPets releases new content on a weekly basis. Each month has its own theme, and much of the content released is related to the theme of that month. Recent popular themes have includes Pirates, Art, and Ancient Egypt. New theme content is available for individual purchase in the theme shop.

GoPets offers Premium packages, including the GoPremium Plus 12 Package. This is a years worth of Premium. All Premium packages (GoPremium, GoPremium Plus Gold, and GoPremium Plus 12) include the Premium Gift for the month, a free Premium Gold Fortune Cookie upon logging into the client each day, and free bonus Shells every time a Shell Pack is purchased during a Premium Membership period. Citizens who purchase Premium Membership also have access to exclusive stores where they can purchase items reserved only for Premium premium members, including the Custom Creations Tool. This special item allows citizens to create customized clothing and furnishings for their pets.

There are three types of GoPets currency, or Shells. Gold Shells are purchased directly from GoPets and are used to buy some of the more coveted items available. Pink Shells are reserved for spending by Premium Members. They can be earned by being creative – leaving testimonials for other citizens, is one way. Green Shells are earned just by being active on the GoPets client. Some foods may also pay Pink or Green shells when consumed. Gold, Pink and Green Shells can all be traded with other citizens; however, there is no official exchange rate. Each citizen decides their own exchange rate, depending on which shells they have and which they need.

A large part of GoPets is its social interaction. Citizens build a social network by making friends with other citizens. This social network is enhanced by several of today’s standard forms of internet communication – email, chat, blogs, and groups based on similar interests. Each citizen is able to create their own blog, and has access to citizen-created chat rooms, as well as a form of instant messaging while in GoPets. As GoPets has citizens all over the world, it has created a very unique format for international communication called IKU. IKU is similar to pictographs in that pictures are used to convey words.

Community is a very important aspect of GoPets, and officially maintains forums for their English, Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese customers. Citizens are encouraged to share ideas, information, and knowledge on these forums. GoPets pays attention to what their citizens have to say! GoPets also has a presence on LiveJournal and MySpace.

One of the first features citizens encounter is GoLand. At level 5, citizens can become landowners by purchasing either a Campground or Land. GoLand can be decorated with a wide variety of buildings, plants, trees, and other decorative items. In addition, many buildings can be entered and decorated with the assortment of interior items for home, office, and stores. Citizens may a total of 10 Lands plus 1 campground.

Crafting is the most recent feature GoPets has released. Citizens can train a pet in various skills, such as Farming and Cooking. For Farming, a plot of GoLand is needed so that special plants and trees can be used. These drop produce, which is then gathered and can be used by another pet to create food or sold to other citizens!

There are two ways in which citizens can sell items. The first is a shop that is set up through the GoPets program. Citizens decide how much to sell their items. Buyers can access user shops through the GoPets’ website. The second method is by placing items out for sale on a personal piece of GoLand. Items available for purchase on GoLand have a Gold, Pink or Green Shell symbol overhead, specifying the highest shell in the price. This method is often used by those who use the Custom Creations Tool because it lets their customers view their customized items in full 3D.
