Think you’re a poker shark? Put yourself to the test with
ThwartPoker, where you’ll play against virtual opponents to try and get the best possible score against them to win the pot!
The game starts with no money in the pot, but each player has ten thousand dollars of play money to bet. Each new hand (game) will start with three randomly dealt community cards which can be used by each player. You’ll want to try and build your hand off of these cards:
You will then have the chance to pick your own cards from the full 52-card deck with all cards face-up. You can pick whichever card you want to build the best hand possible. The only exceptions are cards you previously picked or face-up cards that are already in use, either by other players or as community cards:
Be careful though! You’ll get a thwart card if another player on the current or previous round picked the same card you did. You'll only know that they’ve picked a certain card if it’s part of their last three cards. The first one each player picks is always hidden:
Thwart cards are basically a blank card that counts for nothing towards your overall score and hand.
As the game progresses, you’ll have the chance to bet and raise the pot. There are three betting rounds with an unlimited amount of raises per betting round. During this time you can also choose to fold, but by doing so you won’t receive any money associated with the rank of your hand:
There are six levels in total. You'll have a total of two minutes to make it through all 6 levels, by making all of your opponents bust out at each level. Each time you make it to the next level you will have another opponent to play against (one opponent at level one, two opponents at level two, etc). The better the hands you make, the higher your Hand Bonus will be. The fewer hands you need to make your opponents bust out, the higher your Skill Factor bonus will be, which adds up to more Prize Money for you in the end:
The rank of your
ThwartPoker hands are automatically calculated by making the best five card hand possible using any of the three community cards and your four individually picked cards. Remember that thwart cards hold no value!
Whether you win or lose, but not fold a hand, a bonus is awarded for the following hands:
- Royal Flush: $5000
- Straight Flush: $3000
- Four of a Kind: $2400
- Full House: $1800
- Flush: $1200
- Straight: $1000
- Three of a Kind: $800
- Two Pair: $500
- One Pair: $200

Tips
- If a virtual opponent appears to be creating a better hand than yours, consider using one of your card selections to try to block. This strategy should be used carefully and avoided if it sacrifices any chance of you winning.
- The more community cards you use in building your hand, the more picks you will have available to thwart other players.
- Time is a factor. Make your decisions quickly, but not too quickly.
- Pay attention not only to your own hand, but what your opponents are doing and be careful, because sometimes a low hand is the winning hand when everyone else has been thwarted!
- You can change the character that represents you by finding the following folder on your computer: C:\Documents and Settings\"User"\Application Data\. From there, remove the directory "ThwartPoker Software". The next time you start ThwartPoker, you will be able to change your character to whichever you prefer.
