GoPets Vacation Island Beginner Tips

General

  • Did you know?...if you buy the items that are green and gold with the ? on them in the shops you can customize them?
  • No, there is not a way to delete the IKUs you've sent (outbox).
  • Save frequently! The game sometimes locks up, so saving after big events like leveling will save you from having to redo if the game locks, forcing you to restart it.
  • To get pets to take a bath, drag and drop them over a tub. They'll get a little bubble above their head. Mouse over them like petting them, and you'll bubbles and hear a bubbling sound. Continue to "wash" your pet until they're done bathing.
  • You can have three pets. The selections are Cat, Dog, and Pony. The pony is only available after you've hit a certain level (around level 15).
  • The bubble game (which is typically X'd out when you're a new player) is not available until you obtain a certain level (around level 14).
  • Saving is easy from the purple tab - there's a little blue diskette by your avatar. You can also save by hitting the blue world tab, going to the main map, hitting the center circle and saving from there.
  • When you see pets drop in that you don't recognize, open the orange tab and scroll through the pets; if there's one that you've not met before, you'll see the Add Friend yellow smiley at the bottom of the screen.
  • If you stay in an area and use the tabs to go to the post office you get a whole new set of NPCs
  • If the shops aren't restocking fast enough for you:
    • Wait two days to play and then fire up the game again.
    • Cheat: turn off your DS, pop the game out, turn it back on, change the date, and restart with the game in it... it will should restock them for you
  • Don't forget to check if you have incoming friends requests! I missed that. Press the Orange tab, then the smiley with the question mark at the bottom to check your incoming requests.

Leveling
  • There are 100 levels in the game.
  • Play in one starter area. Once you meet the boss (which has a key on their nameplate), that will open up a new area for you. The pirate ship boss, Orchid, is the last boss. No more areas are opened after you meet her.
  • Buddy levels will raise, then lower again. Sending items off the buddy wish list will raise the buddy level once again.
  • Sending buddies items from their wish lists not only increases the friendship level but increases your shells as well!
  • After you get to level 10, leveling seems to stop (if you've not been sending gifts). To continue, you'll need to start sending gifts to your islanders. Sending them items from their wishlist will cause you to build friendship with them. Several times of this and you'll level up. Buy as many of the more inexpensive items from the store as you can (to start) and save them. Start going through the list of friends and send them.
    • Send a buddy one unique gift a day from their wish list to raise their friendship level.
    • If you want shells send them whatever you want from their wish lists.
  • Accepting a request to play a game will usually increase your friendship level with that islander.
  • As you level, more and more cooking recipes will be unlocked.

Wi-Fi Section

  • If you're connected to WiFi?, you can send your pet away to visit friends. Click on the orange tab, scroll through each pet, selecting the pet face near the avatar and then set that pet to Wander. It'll go out and visit your friends.
  • If you're having trouble connecting to WiFi?, don't forget that you can't just connect straight away. You must set up your WFC first by entering your WEP from your router. Then try to connect to Nintendo WFC after that.
  • Check out the Nintendo forums for particular connection error messages - maybe you'll find the resolution there.
